Europa League Preview: Ferencváros Eye Third Straight Win as Portuguese Underdogs Torreense Visit Budapest

Match Background & Qualification Scenarios

Ferencváros have enjoyed a dream start in the revamped Europa League league phase, winning both fixtures against Celtic (3-1) and Viktoria Plzeň (2-1) to claim 6 points and sit seventh in the standings, well within direct qualification contention for the round of 16. Portuguese underdogs Torreense, who secured historic European qualification by winning the Taça de Portugal from the second tier, opened with a 2-1 away triumph at Lillestrøm before suffering a 1-2 home reverse against Sunderland. Sitting 19th with three points, the visitors need a positive result to stay inside the knockout playoff spots.

Recent Form

Ferencváros are currently on an impressive 13-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, although their last three domestic league outings all ended in 1-1 draws, including the weekend's clash against Kisvárda. In contrast, Torreense arrive on the back of consecutive defeats across all competitions and have suffered from disciplinary lapses with three red cards in their last three outings, though an open weekend allowed them to rest ahead of this trip.

Key Players & Injury News

Ferencváros manager Balázs Borbély has few injury concerns, with only long-term absentee Bence Ötvös (ACL) sidelined. Midfielder Kristoffer Zachariassen has been in electric form, directly contributing to four of the team's five Europa League goals (3 goals, 1 assist) alongside Yusuf Bamidele. Torreense are boosted by a clean bill of health and the return of forward Nuha Jatta from suspension, giving manager Luís Tralhão a fully fit squad to choose from.
